omestic and international travel. By providing a direct connection from Mobil’s Yarraville Terminal to the Somerton Pipeline, Mobil is now able to more efficiently transport fuel from their terminal to Melbourne Airport.
Mobil’s Yarraville Terminal has played a key role in Victoria’s fuel supply chain since 1926. It is the largest fuel storage and distribution terminal in Melbourne, and supplies about one third of Victoria’s fuel needs. Mobil remains committed to serving as a reliable producer and supplier of high-quality petroleum fuels to Victoria. In the past five years, Mobil has invested more than $370 million toward improving the safety, reliability and viability of our fuel refining and distribution facilities in Melbourne.
The terminal receives locally refined fuels via direct pipeline from the Altona and Geelong refineries, as well as imported refined fuels via the adjacent fuels wharf at Holden Dock. The Yarraville Terminal is Mobil’s primary distribution terminal for petrol and diesel fuel in Victoria, and supplies jet fuel to Melbourne Airport and other metropolitan and regional airports.
The works were particularly complex due to underground assets and construction occurring in a busy Melbourne inner city urban location.
